HOW TO CONTACT RECRUITERS ON LINKEDIN

You probably already know that LinkedIn is an excellent resource for networking with colleagues and industry peers. But did you know recruiters are on LinkedIn?

Your professional network can be a valuable source of information as well as job leads. It's also where top candidates look when they're ready to make a move. If you connect with recruiters through your professional network, they may reach out to you about opportunities at their company or elsewhere in the market.

How do I contact recruiters on LinkedIn?

If you see someone from your network who works at a company that interests you or whose profile indicates that they're a recruiter, it's easy to send them a connection request. Since recruiters are always looking for top talent, you can also ask your contacts to recommend you – though this takes more time and effort than a simple connection request.

If you want to find out if someone is a recruiter on LinkedIn, look at their profile and see if they have the job title "Recruiter," "Head of Recruiting", or a similar title in their position description. You can also search by company name to connect with people who mention recruiting as part of their role there, such as "Talent Acquisition Manager" or "Sr. Human Resources Generalist."

How do I reach out to a recruiter?

After you connect with recruiters on LinkedIn, reach out to them directly. Recruiters appreciate candidates who reach out to them first instead of applying for jobs through job boards. If you send a connection request and don't hear back, try sending another message a few weeks later and ask if they received your original request. Also, make sure that you've filled out your profile completely – including your work experience, education history, skills and professional associations – so the recruiter can get a good sense of what you have to offer their company or clients.

If you are not getting responses from certain people, DON'T BLOCK THEM; add yourself to their network and send occasional messages about your achievements… if you are going to apply for jobs, make sure you write a personalised message for the specific position, company or recruiter.

What is the best way to contact recruiters with my resume/CV?

After reaching out to a recruiter on LinkedIn (or not), if you want to send your resume or CV, be sure it's in PDF format and includes your name and contact information as the first page of the document. This makes it easier for recruiters and hiring managers to review your profile without opening up multiple copies.

To avoid being blocked by your connections, when sending emails or messages about job openings or opportunities, generally, always ask permission before sending messages directly related to their clients (job descriptions/vacancy announcements etc.) to their LinkedIn connections.

Also, make sure that you are not contacting recruiters from companies where you have already applied, primarily if they are recruiting for a position unrelated to your previous experience.

Final Thoughts

You should always make sure that you are sending messages to the correct person. For example, make sure you use someone's professional email address when requesting an informational interview or target your request for a job opening to the appropriate company recruiter. Sending such emails on behalf of the company can be damaging to both parties and, in some cases, may even get you blacklisted by the entire organisation!

If a recruiter is not responding to your email, it doesn't mean ignoring you… it means they don't want to talk with you! In general, try reaching out sometime during their working hours - usually early mornings or late afternoons... make sure NOT TO CALL THEM unless specified otherwise in your profile.

Above all, don't be a pest… recruiters are very busy people, and if you bother them too many times, then you will drop down on their blacklist. Also, make sure to read their profile… see if they have any contact details because if they do not, there is no way for you to reach out to them and ask for opportunities with their clients or jobs at the companies themselves!

Finally, trust your gut instinct when contacting recruiters. Suppose something feels off – even if it's just an intuition – back away from that person or company and find someone else to work with instead. In this business of recruiting others, you can smell desperation from miles away, so avoid giving off that "neediness" vibe at all costs! No one likes to do business with a desperate individual… so make sure you slow things down, become more relaxed and be patient when it comes to reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn.
